Global Filters Overview

TiltedTrades provides several global controls that affect all pages of the application. These filters help you focus on specific accounts, time periods, or calculation methods.

All filters are:

  • Persistent: Your selections are saved and remain active across sessions
  • Real-time: Data updates instantly when you change filters
  • App-wide: Filters apply to Dashboard, Trade Log, Calendar, Analytics, and Balance pages

Net vs. Gross P&L Toggle

This toggle switches between two different views of your profitability:

Mode What It Shows When to Use
Net P&L Profit/loss after commissions are deducted Default view. Shows your actual take-home performance
Gross P&L Profit/loss before any commissions Analyzing raw trading skill without commission impact

Location

  • Desktop: In the sidebar, above broker filters
  • Mobile: In the "More" menu (hamburger icon)
Tip

If you're analyzing the effectiveness of different strategies, gross P&L provides a clearer picture by removing the variable of commissions.

FIFO vs. Positional Matching

This setting determines how TiltedTrades matches your trade entries with exits:

FIFO (First-In-First-Out)

Each entry execution is matched with the earliest available exit execution.

  • How it works: If you buy 2 contracts in separate executions and sell 2 contracts later, FIFO creates two distinct matched trades
  • Best for: Granular analysis of each entry/exit pair
  • Trade count: Higher trade count (one per contract)

Positional

All entries and exits within a position are grouped together and averaged.

  • How it works: Multiple entries are averaged into one entry price, multiple exits into one exit price
  • Best for: Scalpers who scale in/out and care about overall position performance
  • Trade count: Lower trade count (one per position)

Location

  • Desktop: In the sidebar, below the Net/Gross toggle
  • Mobile: In the "More" menu
Note

Switching between FIFO and Positional can significantly change your trade count and win rate. Neither is "better" - choose based on your trading style.

Broker and Account Filters

Filter your data to show only specific brokers or individual accounts:

How It Works

  • Each broker appears as a collapsible section
  • Toggle the broker checkbox to include/exclude all accounts from that broker
  • Expand the broker to see individual accounts
  • Toggle individual account checkboxes for granular filtering

Filter by Category

Brokers are organized into categories:

  • Live Accounts: Your real money trading accounts
  • Prop Firms: Funded trader accounts
  • Simulation: Paper trading accounts
  • Custom: Manually uploaded CSV data

You can collapse entire categories to focus on specific types of accounts.

Common Use Cases

  • Compare live vs. sim: Turn off all but one category
  • Track prop firm progress: Filter to only prop firm accounts
  • Focus on one account: Disable all accounts except the one you're analyzing
  • Exclude old data: Turn off archived or inactive accounts
Pro Tip

Create a mental "preset" for different analysis tasks. For example, always filter to only live accounts when reviewing actual performance, and switch to all accounts when practicing in sim.

Theme Toggle (Light/Dark Mode)

Switch between light and dark color themes based on your preference:

Locations

  • Desktop: At the bottom of the sidebar
  • Mobile: In the top-right corner of the header (moon icon)

Theme Persistence

Your theme choice is saved to your browser and persists across sessions and devices (if logged in).

Accessibility

Dark mode can reduce eye strain during extended trading sessions, especially in low-light environments.

Mobile Filter Access

On mobile devices, filters are accessed differently than on desktop:

Opening the Filter Menu

  1. Tap the hamburger menu icon in the top-left corner
  2. The sidebar slides in from the left
  3. All filters (Net/Gross, FIFO/Positional, broker filters) are available
  4. Tap outside the sidebar or the X button to close

Mobile-Specific Features

  • Swipe right to open the sidebar
  • Swipe left or tap the overlay to close
  • All filter changes apply immediately

Filter Combinations

You can combine multiple filters for powerful data slicing:

Example Combinations

Filters Purpose
Gross P&L + FIFO + Single Broker Analyze raw trading skill on one specific account
Net P&L + Positional + All Live Accounts Real-world performance across all personal accounts
Gross P&L + FIFO + Prop Firm Category Compare your trading across different prop firms
Net P&L + Positional + Single Symbol Focus on overall performance trading one contract

Resetting Filters

To reset all filters to their defaults:

  1. Set Net/Gross to "Net"
  2. Set FIFO/Positional to "FIFO"
  3. Enable all broker checkboxes

There is no "Reset All" button currently, as most users prefer to maintain their filter preferences across sessions.

Filter Performance Impact

Filters are highly optimized and should feel instant:

  • No page reloads: All filtering happens client-side
  • Cached data: Trade data is loaded once and filtered in memory
  • Instant updates: Charts, metrics, and tables update in real-time

Even with thousands of trades, filter changes should be nearly instantaneous.

Tips for Effective Filtering

Isolate Variables

When analyzing performance changes, filter to isolate a single variable. For example, compare the same account before and after a strategy change.

Use Consistent Settings

Pick a default filter configuration and use it for regular reviews. This makes month-to-month or week-to-week comparisons more meaningful.

Remember Filter State

If metrics seem off or unexpected, check your active filters. It's easy to forget you have certain accounts disabled.
